Lovely 19th century watercolor portrait miniature of a adorable child holding a canary. This beautiful child has a head full of tight strawberry blond curls, blue eyes, and a lovely creamy complexion with rosy cheeks. He or she wears a low cut blue dress with short puffed sleeves and a white lace collar. In his/her cubby hand calmly sits a yellow canary. The child stands next to a green table with a potted flowering plant. The portrait is beautifully executed with an expert hand at stippling the wonderful colors. The wafer is rectangular with cut corners and is housed in a turned wood frame with brass liner. The cardboard backing is covered with leather. I have my doubts that the frame is as old as the portrait miniature, but it definitely is 19th century. Framed size is 5" x 6". Circa 1830.
