Just for Fun

A grouping of fun educational pages: History of Silhouettes, Silhouettist Biographies, Folk Portrait Artists, and History of Footstools

Peggy McClard has a great interest in learning as much about her inventory as possible.  She is always pleased to share the information she learns with you.  So that she might share some of that information with you on a regular basis, this website provides four educational pages, History of Silhouette, Silhouettist Biographies, Folk  Portrait Artists Biographies, and History of Footstools or "Crickets".  Peggy will add to these fun and educational pages as time permits.

Publications:

Congratulations to Suzanne and Michael Payne on the publication of their new article about portrait miniaturist and silhouettist J.H. Gillespie.  Please buy a copy of the Summer/Autumn 2008 Antiques & Fine Arts Magazine so you can add it to your research library.  And please see the Silhouettes page to see one of the silhouettes pictured in the article.

Payne, Suzanne Rudnick and Payne, Michael R., "Six Choices for the Sitter, James H. Gillespie (1793-after 1849)", Antiques & Fine Art, 200 (Summer/Autumn 2008) (online article at antiquesandfineart.com).

"Top 10 Collectibles for 2008", Country Home Magazine", July/August 2008 (online article at CountryHome.com).

"Let's Go Antiquing - What To Collect Now: Watercolor Folk Portraits", CountryHome.com, February 2008.

Anderson, David, "Dallas Texas, Ralph Willard's Tower Antique Show", Maine Antique Digest, May 2007, 36B-38B (pdf, copyright by Maine Antique Digest).

Please contact Peggy for more detailed photos, condition reports, shipping information, and return policy.  Or just tell her what you like to collect so she can be on the look out for it.  Peggy loves to talk to anyone interested in antiques!  And Peggy hopes you will keep her in mind when you are ready to purchase something fun (like an antique silhouette or antique portrait....or some other type of early folk art)!

Peggy is available for lectures on antique silhouettes and guidance in building your collection.

Because Peggy's inventory can't possibly all fit on this website, why don't you visit her antiques gallery in Central Houston.  Call for an appointment and easy driving directions.

People have become increasingly aware that the human race needs to lessen our footprint on the Earth.  We all know that without conservation, we will run out of fossil fuels in not too many years down the road and there is only so much room for landfills to take the enormous amounts of things we throw away.  Let's remember that living with antiques is a green way of life....one that can help us leave a smaller footprint on this planet.  It's a beautiful way to recycle.  Decorating with antiques helps to save trees and fuel needed to make and import new furnishings.  It lessens the things sent to landfills.  It preserves our history and teaches our children the joy of keeping in touch with our past.  Pass along the word--

Antiques Are Green!
