18th century pewter sugar with wonderfully rare bird handles. This scarce piece has a beautiful stepped footed base over vase form body with exquisitely crafted and detailed applied bird handles. The top has beautiful acorn finial atop a step bordered by a beautifully beaded edge and a concave then convex pair of steps. 6" tall x 3 3/4" diameter top (6" from bird handle to bird handle). Base 2 1/2" diameter. Touchmark on bottom is X under a crown (I think it's a crown). Circa 1790 from Wallonia (the French-speaking part of Belgium).
