Silhouettes

Antique Painted Silhouette of Gent
  • Well-executed painted (not cut) profile half-length profile of a man with a Roman nose. The body color is dark grey with highlighting in light grey or Chinese white for his hair and darker black outlining for his clothing details. His shirt front, stock and collar are well-depicted with a white background and grey painted embellishment for the details. Condition of the silhouette is good but for a speck of missing paint at his ear and a stain in front of his chin. He is housed in the possibly original papier maché frame that measures 5 7/8” x 4 7/8”. The frame has stable craquelere and a tarnished brass surround and acorn hanger. Circa 1830.
