Americana & Folk Art

Back to Textiles

This is a beautiful and very unusual needlework picture of a 19th century interior scene. It is silk thread worked on silk fabrics with some early lace, chenille, hair, and painted paper face and hands used to bring in all the wonderful detail. All of the fabrics appear to be period. The frame is early, as is the glass. I think it is circa 1890...but could have been put together from 19th century fabrics in the 1930s or 1940s. The frame has been taken apart and put back together with later brass screws--possibly for cleaning. I can say with assurance that it is a wonderful piece of Americana worthy of any collection. The frame (with a small shadowbox) measures 12 3/8" x 13 3/4".
