Back to Silhouettes

<Previous Item       Next Item>

A lovely painted silhouette of a gentlewoman by a previously unrecorded artist.  The back of the card is inscribed

The Profile of

Mrs. Elizabeth Houston

done by a Machine

at N 15 Grafton [?] St

Dublin, on

15 February

1828

611 [?] Jarvis [?] St.

T T H [?]

Unfortunately, my computer cannot reproduce the wonderful flourish that accompanies the inscription, but please see the image below to enjoy the entirety.  Below the period inscription, and written in a later hand, is "Painted on card."  The ebonized reeded frame measures 4" x 5", shows quite a bit of wear, but might be original.  The glass is wonderfully thin, swirled and bubbly.  I'm pleased to offer this silhouette at the $200 level I try to keep for beginning collections.  This lady would be an asset to any collection.

(#4294)     $200
