A wonderful pair of cut & paste silhouettes cut by Master Hubard
when he was 13 and possibly 14. Trade Label No. 3 backs the child and is
thought to have been used by the end of 1823 when Hubard was thirteen.
The label backing the woman is a previously unrecorded label (I always
love those!) again without reference to Hubard's age, but referring to
him as "The Celebrated Little Boy". My belief is that he was
referred to as a child or little boy through his fourteenth year. These
silhouettes were purchased unframed from the same source and appear to
have been kept, unframed, in a flat, clean, place for the last 185
years. Framed together in a wonderful period black painted frame
measuring 9 3/4" x 8 1/4". These are exceptional examples of his early
work.
(#3393) $750 Please see the Silhouettist Biographies page for more information about Hubard. |
