Back to Silhouettes

Mrs. Black is a beautifully rendered cut & paste silhouette with exquisite gold embellishment.  She wears a dress with imbecile sleeves, a large pelerine which covers her shoulders and neckline completely and an elaborate bonnet which is high enough in the back to cover her high apollo knot and has a large upturned brim.  The bonnet is adorned with ribbons to the front and back as well as one tied around the body of the bonnet.  Her curls peek out beneath her bonnet as do her long drop earrings.  She holds her reticule or purse which she may have just picked up from the table on which sits a book and vase with a single flower.  The detail in this silhouette is marvelous and it is in great condition.  The woman is identified as "Mrs. Black.  Bradshawgate 1825".  She came to me in a 20th century frame, so I've reframed her in a beautifully figured early 19th century flat profile bird's-eye maple frame with gilt liner that measures 10 1/2" x 13".  I've placed her labels on the wooden backboard incased in acid-free acetate sleeves for protection.  A thin acetate sheet separates the silhouette card from the backboard so you needn't worry about acid damage.  She's a beauty!
