It is rare to find silhouette jewelry and I'm pleased to offer this wonderful pendant with an 18th century man painted in unusual colors of dark sienna with highlights of black, white and yellow. The man wears a wig with a queue (a pigtail wig). The pigtail is ended with a bow--the ribbon from the bow is likely plaited into the hair of the pigtail. His frilled shirt and the frock with the wide angular lapel and the button between the lapel and collar date this silhouette to circa late 1780s. The silhouette is watercolor on ivory. The convex glass has a slight chip at 1 o'clock (remember that you are seeing it greatly magnified and the chip is barely noticeable in person). The gilt pendant frame is in good shape but has lost most of it's gilt finish....it is quite burnished on the back now. This measures a mere 1 1/8" x 1 5/16". A very wearable 18th century antique silhouette at a very good price. (#4545) $385 |
