Sweet young girl by Fredrick Frith of the Royal Victoria Gallery. This beautiful little toddler shows the exquisite gilt embellishment that we expect from both Frith brothers. Her hair, which is parted down the middle, shines in gold as it lays flat with one wave just above her covered ear. Her coiled necklace with a drop is beautifully portrayed. She wears a wide-shouldered dress with a frill across the neckline. The bodice is pleated and held by a sash. Her sleeves are short and end in a ruff just above her elbow. Her skirt is flounced and stops at her knees so that you can see her socks and shoes. She holds something in her hand but I haven't been able to decide what it is....when looking under magnification, it almost looks like a lollipop. Frith has wonderfully painted her chubby hands. The background of grasses is painted in sepia watercolor as is the signature "Frith. / 1846." This sweet cut & paste silhouette is housed in a period rosewood veneer frame with a flat-profile and a gilt liner. Framed size is 7 5/8" x 9 1/2". (#4862) $1495 Please see the Silhouettist Biographies page for more information about the Royal Victoria Gallery and the Frith brothers.
