A very special and rare circa 1760-1785 portrait miniature full color profile (watercolor on ivory) backed by a silhouette (painted on laid paper).  The men depicted are different--perhaps the first owner's husband is in color and her father in silhouette. The lovely gilt metal pendant frame has an incised and roped outside edge, with with a separate beaded surround on the portrait side and another beautifully shaped gilt metal surround on both front and back.  The portrait has the original bowed glass lens...which means I must apologize for the camera reflections.  As is always the case, I can't seem to get the curved lens photographed without glare.  The tiny specks you see are imperfections in the glass that have been highlighted by the camera flash.  You can't see those specks with the naked eye.  The silhouette side has replaced flat glass lens.  This is a very special piece that has been in my collection for several years.  Pendant frame is 1 5/8" x 2", not counting the loop which pushes it to 2 3/16" tall.

(#3840)    $3200
