Peggy McClard Antiques Americana & Folk Art |
| A lovely little watercolor portrait with real folk appeal. She is
almost black and white with just a touch of color in her face and lips.
The verso has history written in pencil that has, unfortunately, faded.
It names the lovely young lady as Jane Jemima Forster and gives her age
as 21, married at 23 to Spencer Sketchley. I did a little research on
the name and found Jane Jemima Forster who married Samuel Sketchley on
January 22, 1814 in Newark Upon Trent, Nottingham, England. I
found no additional information about her, but the one page from my
research will be provided to the new owner of Dear Jane's portrait.
3 7/8" x 4 7/8" papier mâché frame. Circa 1814--possibly done as a
wedding portrait.
