Wonderful naïve portrait miniature on ivory of a young girl with beautiful green eyes that are echoed by the green background.  The artist's technique of curving the background drapery to fit the oval dimensions of the portrait miniature is a delightful surprise.  The young girl wears an indoor cap, a low cut brocade or embroidered white dress with a salmon colored sash. A handwritten label on the verso says “Mifs Green (when a child) my mother’s friend and companion. A very good woman”.  The turned wood frame appears to be original and measures 2 3/4" x 3 3/8".  Circa 1780.
