Naïve watercolor of a beautiful young lady with piercing blue eyes. The young woman wears a dress with bodice en gerbe, cross-over folds set with flounces and pleats.  The bodice tucks into a fabric belt set at the natural waist-line.  Her sleeves are toped with the mancheron, an epaulette-like group of founces at the top of the sleeve at the shoulder.   The sleeves are the style known as the "Marie", full all the way down but gathered in intervals with ribbons.  She wears her dark hair parted in the middle and smooth until ringlets are formed above her ears.  Her white lace bonnet is decorated with pink ribbon that ties below her chin.  Her translucent white lace pèlerine covers the top of her dress.  She wears a necklace of some type of braided material which holds a brooch-slide and mixes with more pink ribbons. Well-executed details make this portrait a real charmer. In striking period, possibly original, 8 3/4" x 9 3/4" frame.  Circa 1820.
