Lovely monochromatic portrait of a woman done in watercolor and graphite.  This lovely lady looks directly at the viewer with her soulful eyes.  She wears a lace mop cap that completely frames her face to under her chin, a full lace pčlerine.  Her sleeves appear to be demi-gigot, full above the elbow, then tight to the wrist.  Her dress is gathered by a sash.  She sits in a wood chair on which the date, "15 No 1826", has been written in graphite on the top rail.  Just inside the crook of her proper right arm is a signature "EmRP".  There is a pencil inscription on the reverse that says "Mrs. Blake Hampton".  It appears as though someone has traced over an earlier inscription to make it more legible.  In a lovely period gilt frame with a flat profile and a ledge to the outside edge and carved faux liner to the inside edge.  The frame measures 6 1/4" x 7 5/8".
