A lovely simply styled 19th century soup or vegetable tureen with an unusual Biedermeier-style shape and knob design.  Simple and elegant, this tureen measures 11 1/2" to the top of the finial x 11 1/2" from bail-handle to handle.  The body is decorated with five simple incised lines (which don't show well in the photos).  The top is almost tagine looking with its tall sloped design.  There is a simple beaded line at the edge of the top and another near the top of the hill on the way to the simple finial.  The foot echoes the slope of the top.  The bail-handles display a functional simplicity.  Very good condition with a small bit of waviness to the edge of the lid.  Soft grey patina is excellent.  The touch mark was heavily struck but some of the identifying characteristics have been worn down with centuries of polishing.  Flemish, attributed to Brussels pewterer C. Clements.  Circa 1820.
