| Unusual pair of pewter sifters or shakers (sometimes called
muffineers but this more correctly refers to sugar castors). Straight
sides with bullet shaped tops. Incised rings decorate top and bottom rim
(which are slightly different on two shakers. Well loved and used. In Pewter of the Western World, 1600-1850,
Peter R.G. Hornsby tells us that there were many more forms of sifters
than have ever been published and it is hard to determine origin. 19th
century. 3 1/2" tall and not quite a matched pair but as close as you
could hope for. The screw tops are stuck tight and I'm not willing
to force them open. (#4223) $75/pair Sale $50 |
