In Pewter of the Western World, 1600-1850, Hornsby says that
most funnels are 18th century, few are marked and examples from
different regions are similar. This is the larger of two funnels
I'm currently offering. This 7 3/4" example of utilitarian pewter
is well-loved and well-used. The outside is a mellow soft grey
patina. The inside shows a bit of corrosion which make me imagine
that it might have been for something acidic such as wine. The
hanging ring is wonderfully misshapen but original. The top edge
has a small crack and the bottom of the funnel also looks a bit
moth-eaten. I've show as much detail as possible. It's a
fantastic bit of early life. (#3620) $95 |
