Really exceptional antique pewter coffee pot with dragon spout and the
most excellent patination I’ve seen in many, many years. This lovely
18th century coffee pot stands 12” tall to the tip of its perfect acorn
finial. The dragon spout is beautifully formed and the spout ends in a
foliate and floral decoration that is unique to my eyes. The top is
stepped with beading around the base of the acorn and then another row
of beading at the top step. The body curves inward then, at another line
of beading, gently swells to an outwardly curved belly. The pot sits on
a stepped foot with a line of beading at the top step. The wooden handle
is original, the paint is early and bears its own wealth of patina from
centuries of gentle handling. This lovingly cared for coffee pot has no
repairs, no dents, no corrosion. The only apology I can find are 2 small
scratches on one side of the belly….very insignificant. The bottom bears
two touchmarks: 1) a crowned rose with "H" and possibly "B" in crown;
and 2) an oval with winged man with shield and upraised sword standing
over slain dragon. French. Circa 1780.
