Striking pair of 18th century antique pewter candlesticks. This pair have simple tulip-shaped candlecups with fluting on the bottom one-third of the cups. The cup sits atop a flared stand that tops the stem which, in turn, flares downward and terminates in fluting on the stem's bottom half. The stem sits atop a bell-shape dome, edged in beading that has all but disappeared after centuries of cleaning.  The stick then steps down to a square foot. The vertical edge of the foot bears the touchmark of a crowned flower. Inside of the crown are initials, which though so tiny they are next to impossible to read, appear to either be “H N” or “N N”. Circa 1780. French. There is a small crack in each candlecup. Otherwise they are in excellent condition with a mellow patina.  9 1/2" tall with a 4" square base.
