| Wonderful and well-loved circa 1850 shaving or toiletries box with
exuberant paint decoration. The box was well used and the decoration
shows appropriate wear for a utilitarian box. In fact, these little
boxes had such frequent use, we are lucky to find them with any
decoration left at all. The mirror inside the lid is original and in
wonderful condition, but for a little wear to the silver at the edges. I
suspect the white paint on the inside is later--although it has the
feel, look and smell of original. I just don't think it would have come
through the daily use intact. See the next photo for the inside of the
top, with mirror, and the bottom with the well turned foot. 4 1/2"
diameter x 3 1/4" tall.
