Back to Paint Decoration

Exquisite circa 1835 American school girl decorated box with lots of charm! The young girl who decorated this beautiful box with pen and brush practiced drawing her front pattern on the inside lid. The paint decoration is a bit more gold colored than in the photo (which looks rather orange to me).  Dad must have made this box for her with lots of love--the top is wonderfully chamfered. The box has butt edges and is held together with tiny hand-made T-headed nails. There are some scratches to the original paint but the camera accentuates them. It's a lovely 13 7/8" x 9 3/8" x 3 1/8" box.

The budding artist practiced her design on the inside of the lid as shown above.
