American late 19th century bench stool with graceful rounded apron and end pieces that are curved to a half-moon on both sides and bottom. Early, likely original, oxidized red paint with red and yellow freehand painted decoration. The top has never been painted—tack holes show the top was originally upholstered. Some people might call this a kneeling stool or bench, but it is really a bit tall to kneel on and a the top of true kneeling stool would slant downwards for more comfort. Likely Pennsylvania origin. 22" x 8" x 7 3/4" tall. #4241 $575 |
