18th century American Windsor stool with bulbous turned and splayed legs. The rectangular seat has chip carving on two edges and simple carved double reeding on other two edges. The carved decoration of the top edges and the oblong plugged hole in the seat indicate that this may have originally been the base of a flax wheel. Tack holes around the edges of the seat show that this was used as an upholstered footstool during its history. 19th century combed paint decoration is umber over ochre. Top measures 14” x 7 ½”, splay measures 16” x 10”. 7” tall. Circa 1760.
