Back to Paint Decoration

<Previous Item      Next Item>

Beautifully false grained American box that is further painted decorated with a stenciled monogram, "J.J."  This wonderful black over read painted box has the best dry, slightly crazed original finish.  Along with the original lock and hinges, the top inside of the box includes a graphite inscription "Alvena Gilbert, Delmar, N.Y."  Alvena was likely a subsequent owner to the "J.J." for whom the box was made.  It is, however, likely from New York. 12" x 9" x 4 3/4" with nailed construction (the nails are all filled).  Circa last half of the 19th century.

(#4102)     $495
