Exceptional 19th century paint decorated pine box, false grained to look
like bird's eye maple with tiger maple edges. This stunning box
measures 16 1/4" x 10" x 6 1/4" tall. It has square nail
construction and a wonderful dry finish. The lock box is original,
but apparently someone had to break into the box because the top lock is
gone from the box top....however, you can find part of it still locked
to the lock box (see photos below). The brass hinges are also
original. The box is in excellent condition with the exception of
a wood crack at the back edge above one of the hinges (see photo below).
This is a really spectacular American paint decorated box! Circa
