Early American tiger maple stool with shaved or chamfered legs. The solid maple rectangular top is quite heavy and has a great chamfered bottom. The underside of the seat shows an early finish with craquelere to the red paint.  There are also remnants of the oxidized red paint to the legs (which are chamfered into a lamb's tongue).  Tack holes show that the stool has been upholstered numerous times in its long life.  There is a great burn mark on the top and, as you can see in the photos below, the tiger maple wood is almost burled (it may, in fact be burl).  The edge of the seat is rough. 14" 6 3/4", 6 3/4" tall. Circa 1800.
