Mirrors were so valuable in the early years of this country that
when they broke, owners would fashion homemade frames for the broken
pieces. Here are two wonderful examples of those “fragment”, “fracture”,
or “shard” mirrors. “A” is a late 18th or early 19th century
“fragment” or “fracture” mirror in early yellow & black paint with
handle. A screw was added sometime during the 20th century to keep the
wood trap door closed. 9 3/8” x 6 7/8". A fabulous example!
(#3618) $1275 “B” is a wonderful example of a 19th century “fragment” or “fracture” mirror. 8 1/4" x 4 1/2" at widest. (#3616) $325 |
