American upholstered footstool with delicate turned legs covered in early, possibly original, red paint. The seat is made of a wood plank and currently has very little padding between the wood and upholstery. The original padding would have likely been horsehair or wool. The current upholstery is a fragment of 19th century ingrain carpeting. The underside of the wood seat shows many tack holes verifying that the stool was reupholstered several times during its life. 13 1/2" x 7 1/2" x 6 1/2" tall.  There are two tiny holes in the fabric in each of two corners--apparently from a tack underneath.  I've pointed out both holes in the photos below. Circa 1820.
