American upholstered footstool with delicate turned legs covered in
early, possibly original, red paint. The seat is made of a wood plank
and currently has very little padding between the wood and upholstery.
The original padding would have likely been horsehair or wool. The
current upholstery is a fragment of 19th century ingrain carpeting. The
underside of the wood seat shows many tack holes verifying that the
stool was reupholstered several times during its life. 13 1/2" x 7 1/2"
x 6 1/2" tall. There are two tiny holes in the fabric in each of
two corners--apparently from a tack underneath. I've pointed out
both holes in the photos below. Circa 1820. #2929 $250 Please see our History of Footstools or Crickets page for more information. |
