| Beautiful burled veneer folk art box with abalone inlay of 5 hearts.
The center heart has further black shell inlay of initials "LR". Two
little metal hook and eyes hold the box shut. Original brass hinges that
have been reset in the original carved channels. Lined with fuzzy purple
fabric....I'm not sure if it is early cotton velvet that has worn to an
interesting fuzzy appearance or an old replacement fabric. 8 1/2" square
x 3 3/4" tall. Likely English in origin and from the 3rd quarter of the
19th century. A really well executed box!
