Back to Early Lighting

This is a truly magnificent pair of 18th century bronze candlesticks.  The 10" beauties have removable bobeches which were added in the 19th century when candles got small in diameter.  The wide 18th century candles would have fit directly into the unadorned candle cups.  The elegant detailing on the candlesticks includes vertical ribbing on the scalloped, bulbous stems.  This is atop knopped swelling with horizontal beading.  The stems sit atop multi-faceted stepped bases which measure 5 1/2" in diameter.  These sticks are very heavy....you will know immediately when you hold them that they are not brass!  However, like brass, these candlesticks would have been kept highly polished to help reflect light into the room.  Circa 1750.  Continental.  They are a splurge, but well worth it!

(#4954)     $1250/pair
