Back to Early Lighting

I can't say enough about the magnificent and commanding brass repousse lantern.  It is late 18th century, has great surface and all of its original glass panels intact and unbroken.  The wonderful repousse decoration is on all surfaces except the done.  I stands a commanding 19" tall.  The bottom decoration is so wonderful that you will want to hang it for all to see.  The door has a twisted brass wire latch and a single candle socket.  My only apology is that the original hinge seems to have slipped just enough so that I can't get the latch into the hole....although it moves freely and I keep thinking I have it latched, I then find that the door still opens.  No worries as it stays shut without the latch.  I love this lantern!  Please take time to look at all photos as I've given you one of every angle.  I'm happy to send larger format photos via email.  Likely English, probably from a church or meeting house.  Circa 1780.
