American green paint decorated Windsor stool with a rectangular top and
great splay to turned legs. The stool has early, probably original,
apple green paint with yellow and darker green highlighting to the
turnings of the legs. The seat has freehand floral design edged in dark
green rectangle, but quite worn. This form of short, rectangular stool
with a very wide splay of thin legs is what is commonly called a
“cricket stool” in today’s market. However, in the 19th century,
“cricket” and “footstool” were used interchangeably. Circa 1820. Top
measures 11 1/4" x 5". Legs splay to 14 3/4" x 7". 6 1/2" tall.
