In the 1840's American Schoolgirls were taught to paint small
objects such as flowers or birds in watercolor and carefully cut them
out and paste them into painting compositions. This lovely bunch
of flowers is one of those scarce and delightful watercolor cut-outs.
This piece was found in a 19th century scrapbook and has been framed in
a period gilt frame tinted to look like silver (which is unusual as
silver was often tinted to imitate gold and then used in gilding).
Framed size is 5 7/8" square. (1513) $195 Sale Price $145 |
