American watercolor painting done with stencils in the manner of a theorem. Song bird with beautiful markings of red, black, yellow and raw sienna perched on a green tree trunk. The paper is lightly floated onto (with two tiny bits of archival tape) hand marbled paper and set into paint decorated frame measuring 8 1/8" x 10 1/8". Circa 1840.  The marbled paper is made in the same manner in which it has been made since the 1600s.  Marbled paper was very popular in the 19th century.  This lovely painting is probably from New England.
