Beautiful little watercolor with attribution on the back as follows "American watercolor. C. 1840-50. Attributed to Charles Shoettel, New York City. From the portfolio album of Charles Shoettel (album bound descended in the family of John D. Ottiwell, who served in the 7th regiment of the NYC volunteers & was a delegate to the 1868 Republican Convention. The album remained in that family until April 2002." Shoettel was well-known for his watercolor depictions of Broadway plays in the mid 19th century--nautical paintings by Shoettel are very hard to find. By the way, this 6" x 7 3/4" period frame has the most fantastic patina!
