A fun American folk art scherenschnitte peacock of the 19th century.  The cut work is very good with lots of pen knife slashes for feathers (including along breast of bird) and punch-work used for detail within body (including wing and eye).  The artist applied small gold leaf accents to tail feathers for the "eye" of the tail.  As the photos show, there are numerous small areas of staining or foxing.  There is a small tear to the lower left corner of the fence gate and a couple of tears to the far right fence section.  This folky scissor cutting lays atop a page of bright blue flint paper.  Lightly written on bottom rung of fence "This gift from a friend".   Likely from Pennsylvania.  Housed in a period painted frame that measures 10 5/8" x 8".  This is a fun example of the art of scherenschnitte as well as the friendship tokens that were so popular in the 19th century.
