Really special hand-drawn and painted "Family Register" for the Pancoast family of Burlington County, NJ, circa 1860. The detail work is naive and wonderful! Across the top is wonderful depiction of the stages of life, starting with a bedroom scene showing a canopy bed next to a cradle with infant (representing the "Birth of Parents"). The next scene is a wedding ceremony ("Marriage of Parents"). Third is a woman rocking an infant ("Birth of Children", and finally, a church and cemetery ("Death of Parents").  The wonderful top scenes are set atop incredibly fanciful columns wrapped with flowers and leaves. Each bit of personal history is divided by decoration akin to the laurel wreaths of the Greek era....Classical themes were quite popular in the mid-19th century (as evidenced by columnar decoration of Empire furniture). The earliest date on the register is the birth of Frances Poinsett, 1786. The latest date on the register is the birth of Hiram Pancoast in 1858. The Pancoast family has a long family history in New Jersey (at least as far back as 1766), but I have, so far, been unable to find individual information on these individuals. ....I will keep looking and will provide any genealogical information to the buyer. Email for larger photos and a condition report. ...This is really a great piece of American folk art!  Archivally framed in a period mahogany veneer frame measuring 24" x 19 1/2".
