I am putting this watercolor painting in Folk Art for lack of a better place to put it....it belongs in a fine art category. This finely executed watercolor is attributed to William Lewin (1747-1795). It is an original plate for The Birds of Great Britain Accurately Figured, published 1789 and 1795. The 7 volume work consisted of 323 original watercolor illustrations. It has been confirmed that a small falcon (hobby) was plate number 21 as this one is marked. The attribution has been further confirmed by an expert on 18th and 19th century nature prints and paintings.  Framed in a 15 3/4" x 18" period bird's-eye maple frame.

(#1080)     $2300
