Beautifully rendered circa 1835 hairwork picture of churchyard. The flowers, trees and insects are executed from hair strands while the church rooftop and ground are made of closely clipped hair. I cannot tell for sure what the background is made of (and I dare not open it), but it might be reverse-painted glass. The sky is faint blue and the rest has a frosted look that allows a faint shadow to be cast behind, adding to the 3 dimensional effect (which is outstandingly rendered in the trees and flowers). Forgive the big, bright flash glare in the upper right--the curved glass is impossible to photograph without some glare. 11 7/8" x 9 3/4".
