A truly exceptional mid-19th century watercolor and penwork of an ivy-covered cottage and garden. This is a commanding work with vivid colors and of a nice large size.  Framed in a 23" x 15" period maple frame with gilt liner.  With thanks to art historian, Ed Polk Douglas of Lyons, New York, it appears that this charming cottage was probably painted from life of a real cottage and garden.  Isn't it spectacular?  Paper laid down on wood with some browning to the sky area.
