This is a really delightful folk oil on board of a winterscape complete with Dad pulling his youngest daughter on a sled which , in turn, is pulling the freshly cut Christmas tree. Dad's older children follow after enjoying a family day of sledding while Dad felled the family Christmas tree. The beautiful snowy scene includes a lovely big barn, stone fence on one side, split rail fence on the other, and snow covered mountains in the background. This naïve painting is likely from the first quarter of the 20th century, this lovely oil on artist's board is framed in a frame from the last half of the 19th century which still has it's original dry black painted surface. The artist's board was cut down but it appears to have been cut specifically for this painting (i.e., it does not appear to be a cut down painting). 16 1/2" x 20 1/2". An antique dealer from Pennsylvania kindly emailed to say she has a round oil painting of the identical scene signed "H.W. Moore, 86". Apparently, this scene is taken from another piece. Perhaps a Currier and Ives print? Perhaps a well-known painting? If anyone has any info about the source of this lovely painting, I would be thrilled if you would share it.
