Outstanding oil on artist's board still life signed and dated "J.I. Charlton 1905." There is a listed British artist of the correct period by the name of John Charlton, but the British Charlton is known for military, mountain landscapes, and animals. I have compared the styles and do not believe this to be from the same artist. Additionally, the style indicates this painting is American. I have found a J.I. Charlton in geneology/marriage records who was married in Sumner, Tennessee in 1884. It is more likely that the Tennessee Charlton painted this superb still like. The painting has a great Arts & Crafts look and would compliment many decorating styles. Framed in the possibly original 27" x 19" gold painted frame (missing a small slice from the bottom left edge that is hardly noticeable).
